Position summary:
The Trottier Space Institute is looking for a Program Manager to join our dynamic team and carry out a wide variety of duties related to the management of the Institute and assist in development of new research initiatives. The Program Manager will be responsible for overseeing TSI elements including budget, resources, and facility, while supporting strategic initiatives and grant proposals. They will be a key point of contact for vendors and external partners and will liaise daily with the Director and other TSI staff. They will assist TSI faculty with development of new research projects and preparation for grant proposals.
Primary responsibilities:
- Oversee TSI budgets and ensure planning and tracking of expenses and annual reporting in consultation with the Director.
- Assist Director in development and maintaining of Institute policies and activities and TSI staff supervision
- Develop, implement, and oversee research new project plans and monitor progress toward desired outcomes. Establish project schedules, ensure conformance to plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
- Assist with research project grant proposal development, writing and submission.
- Communicate with stakeholders/authorities at the university, in the collaboration, and at funding agency levels and produce project reports, documents, and updates as needed in the development phase.
- Maintain vendor relationships and direct procurement needed for project completion.
- Receive requests for TSI-sponsored funding, performing checks on funding applications before forwarding to the Director (or delegated representative) for approval.
- Serve as a day-to-day liaison between contractors, architects, campus planning staff, and the Director during the construction of the TSI building extension.- Collaborate with McGill’s University Advancement office and the Director to advance TSI’s fundraising goals
Other qualifying skills and/or abilities:
- Experience in a research or academic environment, and/or advanced degree in astronomy, physics, engineering or a related field is a strong asset.
- Strong analytical background and project planning skills.
- Excellent communication skills.- Experience managing funds, spreadsheets.
- Experience in training and coaching staff and students.
- Proven team-building, problem solving and negotiation skills.
- Experience in budget forecasting and analysis.
- Professional certification as project manager and/or engineer is desirable. PMI certification such as CAPM or PMP, including micro-credentials in construction (such as PMI-CP) is considered an asset.
- Ability to work in a Microsoft tools environment. - French, spoken & written is considered an asset.
Salary commensurate with experience.
